THE WAR ON DRUGS : BURNING
I think this is such a good song especially live, whatever mood you are in it just lifts you up and makes you feel better ! That hypnotic synth leads straight into a hammer blow drum beat and off we go on journey ... across the bridge :
BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN : THUNDER ROAD
When you close your eyes Bruce's lyrics take you back to another time and place where you can feel the roar of the engine and smell the oil as the Chevy pulls away with a screech of the tyres. Seriously though, along with Bob Dylan, he is not just the poet of a generation, he is the poet of a lifetime. I've been lucky enough to see him with the East Street Band four times over the years, and for me they are the best live performers I've seen, there is no other experience that comes close - the crowds love him, and he loves the crowds ! This version of Thunder Road is from an MTV Plugged show, and it's definitely one of the best :
JEFF BECK : NESSUN DORMA LIVE
RIP Jeff Beck, the man who could make his guitar sing and sustain notes other guitarists could only dream about ! Always surrounded by musicians he had total respect for, this version of Nessun Dorma can't fail to lift you up ! He sadly passed away on the 20 January 2023, fortunately his beautiful music and guitar playing will live on forever.
The War On Drugs have been around for a few years and it's been my loss that I didn't get into them much sooner. Their music is like a breath of fresh air, and then all of a sudden they take your breath away like when you stand on the edge of a cliff ... and look down ! I have a few of their albums and I've found most of their songs just grow on you over time. Hearing them live takes things to a whole new level, they're one of my favourite bands now. THE WAR ON DRUGS : HOLDING ON
LABRYNTH & EMILE SANDE : BENEATH YOUR BEAUTIFUL
WET LEG : CHAISE LONGUE
Chaise Longue is one of the anthems of 2022, do you Like your Muffin Buttered ?!
RYAN ADAMS : OH MY SWEET CAROLINA
When I first heard Ryan Adams I could not stop looking for his songs and ended up buying 7 of his albums ! Over time I've seen him live twice, in the Opera House in Cork in the Republic, it's a really intimate theatre and they're nights I'll never forget. He's going out on a solo tour over the next six months, if you get the chance to see him, GO :) !
